29 April 2013

Today for personal progress, we are starting Integrity 3:

The Savior is the perfect example of integrity; He did what He promised the Father He would do. Read 3 Nephi 11:10–11. Study the lives of other individuals in the scriptures who lived with integrity. Read Genesis 39; the book of Esther;Job 2:327:3–6Daniel 3 and 6; Acts 26Doctrine and Covenants 124:15; andJoseph Smith—History 1:21–25. In your journal identify the ways these people demonstrated integrity. Think of a time when you had the courage to show integrity, especially when it was not easy or popular. Share your experience and your feelings about it in a testimony meeting or lesson or with a parent or leader.

Today, read 3 Nephi 11:10-11  and think about all the things the Savior promised he would do.  Also, study Genesis 39. Identify the ways Joseph demonstrated integrity.

Oh, and don't forget to acknowledge those who serve in your behalf.

28 April 2013

Hey Guys, sorry again for the delay in posting. Our Young Women's Camp fundraiser was this weekend and I was just not able to think about anything else. Since my advice to you if you miss a day is just to pick up where you left off, that's what we are going to do.

Hopefully you still worked on Divine Nature 4 and continued doing what you said you'd do to remember the Savior. If you did that over these past few days, you are done! Check it off.

And maybe you kept working on Good works 1 by recognizing acts of service others do for you?

The only thing you may have forgotten about was the third Sunday of Faith 4 to make a special effort to listen to the sacrament prayers and ponder the covenants you made at baptism. If you did that today, WAY TO GO! Check it off.  If not, do it next Sunday. I'll remind you in case you forgot this week.

Ok, so let's keep on keeping on.

Tomorrow we start Integrity 3. and I'm super excited about it. I hope you are too.

2013 April 25

For Personal Progress today, read Mosiah 2:17, Mosiah 4:26, and 3 Nephi 13:1-4 and record in your journal the small acts of service your family has performed for you today.

Can you recite the Sacrament prayers from memory yet? Give it a try. You need to have both prayers memorized by Sunday. Also, remember to do what you said you'd do to help you remember the Savior each day.

2013 April 24

Today for Personal Progress, we are starting a new value so today is heavy compared to most days. But, you can do it! We are almost done with Divine Nature 4 and Faith 1. We will finish them both on Sunday.

Today, we are starting Good Works 1. Read:
Record in your journal the small, quiet acts of service your family did for you today.

Keep on memorizing the Sacrament prayers. Can you recite, from memory, the prayer over the bread? It's a little different from the water so be careful. Here's the water prayer with just the first letter of the word. You can do it.

2013 April 22

Today and the next few days for Personal Progress, we are going to work on memorizing the prayer over the bread. Be sure to do what you said you'd do to remember the Savior each day. Just another week and you'll be done with Divine Nature 4.

Just read the prayer today (Doctrine and Covenants 20:79):

O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son,
Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of
all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance
of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they
may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they
do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit to be
with them. Amen.

2013 April 21

Happy Sunday!

For Personal Progress today, keep doing what you said you'd do to remember the Savior each day. Also, ponder about the meaning of the the Sacrament as you listen to the hymns and prayers. Think about the promises you made and the covenants you are renewing. Record your thoughts in your journal.

2013 April 20

Much apologies! Due to a family situation I was not able to have yesterday's or today's posts up on time. I hope you kept on with what you were working on and found something to do for the day for Personal Progress.

Today's Personal Progress task is to continue doing what you said you'd do for those two weeks to help you remember the Savior. Don't forget we are also working on Faith 4, which requires you to do some pondering during the Sacrament. Be sure to check in here tomorrow before you head to church.

2013 April 19

Today for Personal Progress, you need to do two things:
1. Recite the sacrament prayer over the bread from memory.
2. Do what you said you'd do at the start of each day to help you remember the Savior.

Thursday, April 18, 2013

2013 April 18

Today for personal progress, see if you can recite the prayer on the bread from memory. If not, look at April 17 post to get a hint. Also, be sure to remember to do whatever it was you planned to remember the Savior over these two weeks.

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

2013 April 17

Today for Personal Progress, read the sacrament prayer over the bread using only the first letters of the words. Spend about 10 minutes doing this exercise.

2013 April 16

Today for personal progress, we are going to work on memorizing the Sacrament prayer for the bread. Spend about 10 minutes today reading over the verse without any vowels:

2013 April 15

Today, for Personal progress, we are starting Divine Nature 4:
Memorize the sacrament prayers in Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79. During the sacrament, listen carefully to the prayers and think about what it means to take upon yourself the name of Jesus Christ and how doing this should affect your actions and decisions. Practice keeping your baptismal covenants. Begin by doing something each day to recognize and further develop your divine qualities and to help you always remember the Lord Jesus Christ. After two weeks record your experience in your journal.

Today, you need to do is read the 2 verses and think about what you can do each day to help you remember the Lord and recognize and develop your divine qualities. You can look at the list you created when you finished Divine Nature 1 and choose 14 to focus on, one for each day throughout the two weeks. Or you can participate in the 14 Day Walk with Christ

Tomorrow, we will work on memorizing the prayers.

2013 April 14

Today for Personal Progress, establish a pattern of pondering during the Sacrament. Listen to the words of the Sacrament hymns. Read the scriptures at the bottom of the page. Think about why we take the bread and water and what promises you make as you partake of the sacrament. Think about how you keep these promises. Record these thoughts in your journal today.

Saturday, April 13, 2013

2013 April 13

For Personal Progress today, we are starting Faith 4:

Learn more about the sacrament. Read about the Last Supper in Matthew 26:26–28Mark 14:22–24; and Luke 22:17–20. Establish a pattern of pondering during the sacrament by listening carefully to the sacrament hymn and prayers. Think about why we partake of the bread and water. After three weeks of following this pattern, write in your journal some of the promises you make as you partake of the sacrament and remember your baptismal covenants and what you do to keep those promises. Record in your journal how your understanding of these promises has strengthened your faith in the Savior.

Today, just read the scriptures in Matthew, Mark and Luke

Be sure to come to the blog before you attend church tomorrow. Your daily personal progress task will be about pondering during the Sacrament so you will want to read it beforehand.

2013 April 12

Today for Personal Progress, read Joseph Smith- History: 1:1-20. Record in your journal how these verses help you understand that Heavenly Father knows you, loves you, and is mindful of you.

Once, you're done with that, sign off on Individual Worth 1!
You're awesome.

2013 April 11

For Personal Progress today, discuss with a parent or leader what you learned the past 2 days about agency. Write your understanding of consequences of choices and actions in your journal.

We are also starting Individual Worth 1 today so you need to read Psalms 8:4-6, Jeremiah 1:5, John 13:34, Doctrine and Covenants 18:10, and Abraham 3:22-23. Record in your journal how each of these verses helps you understand that Heavenly Father knows you, loves you, and is mindul of you.

Oh, and sign off Choice and Accountability 3 because you are finished!

2013 April 9

Today for personal progress we are starting a new experience: Choice and Accountability 3

Agency, or the ability to choose, is one of God’s greatest gifts to His children. Read about agency in Joshua 24:152 Nephi 2; and Doctrine and Covenants 82:2–10. With a parent or leader, discuss the blessings and responsibilities of agency. Record in your journal your understanding of agency and the consequences of choices and actions.

For today, you need to read Joshua 24:15 and Doctrine and Covenants 82:2-10. As you read, think about the blessings and responsibilities of agency.

2013 April 8

Wasn't General Conference great?! I loved Sister Elaine S. Dalton's talk about the importance of women in God's plan and what we can all do to help young women. I'm sad she was released, but I'm sure Sister Oscarson will be great as well.

Today for Personal Progress you need to discuss with a parent or leader what you have learned about Faith over these last 3 weeks and how daily prayer has strengthened your faith. Be sure to express your feelings about faith and prayer in your journal as well.

Guess what!? You are finished with Faith 1! Way to go!
Don't forget to get it signed off.

2013 April 7

So yesterday, you chose a talent or skill to develop. Today, you need to make a plan to develop the talent or skill you chose*. For Knowledge 2, you can use your judgement on when you feel like you have mastered it. But if you are combining it with a Value Project, you need to record your hours and spend at least 10 hours mastering it.

Let's take a minute and talk about setting goals. There are three important things to remember when it comes to setting goals:
  • Be Realistic. In choosing a talent or skill to learn, consider your schedule and other responsibilities. You aren't going to learn about Nutrition in 30 minutes. But a good "surface" understanding probably won't take more than a month.
  • Set a finish line. Going back to being realistic, you should have a time frame in which you would like to complete your project. Or maybe you'll learn everything you can about that subjuct in the time frame you've alloted yourself. Either way, if you don't set a deadline for yourself you might get too carried away or accomplish nothing. We've all been there....
  • Be quantitative. When you set your goals, set them by something that's measurable  Instead of "I'm going to study about Nutrition every day" be specific with how long you will study each day. That's something that's measurable. Understand?

Now, since I'm doing this right along with you, I thought I would share my plan with you:
1. Spend 30 minutes each day practicing the piano (I'm combining this with the Knowledge Project)
2. Use the church's keyboard course
3. Learn to play 3 hymns, using both hands.

*I've helped you with the easy part, choosing a skill or talent to develop and finding resources. The hard part is the developing. I can't do that for you. If now isn't a good time for you to start a project like this, make a plan anyway and start the project another time.

2013 April 6

Today for Personal Progress, you need pray and you need to look at your list of talents and skills you'd like to develop and choose one to work on. It wouldn't hurt to pray for guidance on which skill to choose.

Here are some ideas and links to resources. In addition to what I've provided, be sure to check out your local library. Libraries always have a wealth of how-to books! Don't forget textbooks too for things like Nutrition. There are many, many options for skills you could choose. You do not have to choose one of these. Since learning a new skill takes time, lots of time, I've noted where you might be able to combine this with a project. If you find other resources that would be helpful to others, please share them in the comments.

Budgeting (Combine with Choice and Accountability 7)

Cooking (Combine with Good Works Value Project or Divine Nature Value Project)

Childcare/Babysitting (combine with Good Works Value Project)

Playing the piano (Combine with Knowledge Value Project)

Organizing (Combine with Choice and Accountability Value Project)
Time Management

Food Storage/ Emergency Preparedness

Nutrition (Combine with Good Works Value Project)

Gardening (Combine with Faith Value Project)
Be sure to check your local library for region-specific gardening books
Be sure to check for county extension offices as well.

Canning (Combine with Knowledge Value Project if you find get someone to teach you how)
Be sure to check for your local county extension office.

2013 April 5

Today, we are starting yet another value experience: Knowledge 4.

In your journal list talents you have and others you would like to develop. Read Matthew 25:14–30. Learn a new skill or talent that will help you care for your own future family or home (for example, playing the piano, singing, budgeting, time management, cooking, sewing, or child care). Share with your family, class, or Young Women leader what you have learned.

For today's personal progress task, read Matthew 25:14-30, The Parable of the Talents. Make a list of the skills you have and make a list of the skills you'd like to develop.

As part of Faith 1, you need to share what you've learned about prayer and faith with a parent or leader sometime between today and Monday. See if you can arrange to teach the Family Home Evening lesson this upcoming week and share your experiences. Use some of the scriptures you read to help you teach your lesson about faith and prayer.

2013 April 4

We are finishing up Virtue 4 today. All you have left is to think about how you can live to always be worthy to partake of the Sacrament each week. One suggestion would be to make a daily plan to remain pure and worthy.  Once you finish that, be sure to have a parent or leader sign off on Virtue 4. Way to go!

Keep on praying, ladies.

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

2013 April 3

For personal progress today, read Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79. You will recognize these as the Sacrament prayers. Think about how the sacrament and Christ's sacrifice make it possible to live a virtuous life.

And say those prayers morning and night. Has saying prayers become a habit yet? Have you had some experiences where your prayers have been answered. Feel free to share here if you like.

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

2013 April 2

For Personal Progress today, be sure to read  the section on Repentance from For the Strength of Youth. Again, consider what this section has to do with living virtuously. And pray morning and night.

Monday, April 1, 2013

2013 April 1

Hope your Easter was wonderful! We are starting a new Personal Progress value experience today: Virtue 4.

Because the Savior loves you and has given His life for you, you can repent. Repentance is an act of faith in Jesus Christ. Read Moroni 10:32–33, the book of Enos, and the section on repentance in For the Strength of Youth. The Savior’s atoning sacrifice has made it possible for you to be forgiven of your sins. Read the sacrament prayers in Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79. Determine to partake worthily of the sacrament each week and fill your life with virtuous activities that will bring spiritual power. As you do this, you will grow stronger in your ability to resist temptation, keep the commandments, and become more like Jesus Christ. Determine what you can do daily to remain pure and worthy, and write your plan in your journal.

Today, all you need to do is read Moroni 10: 32-33 and Enos 1. Think about what these scriptures have to do with living virtuously. Also, we have just one more week left of saying prayers morning and night, then you can sign off Faith 1. You can do it!
